Every individual possesses the inherent ability to achieve their highest potential. This conviction is the cornerstone upon which the transformative powers of vulnerability and healing are harnessed.
Mahnum Iqbal
Mahnum is a compassionate and skilled Registered Provisional Psychologist and Canadian Certified Counsellor, committed to providing client-centered, trauma-informed care. She holds a Master of Science in Clinical Counseling Psychology from Brenau University and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from the University of Alberta. Mahnum is currently practicing in Edmonton across multiple organizations, including the BIPOC Healing Centre, Islamic Family Social Services, and Thrive Teens, where she works with individuals, couples, families, and youth.
Her therapeutic approach is rooted in empathy, cultural responsiveness, and collaboration. Mahnum integrates evidence-based modalities with a trauma-informed, strengths-based lens, tailoring her interventions to meet the unique needs of each client. She is experienced in individual, family, and group therapy and is passionate about working with diverse populations, including BIPOC and immigrant communities. Mahnum supports clients through a wide range of concerns including anxiety, trauma, emotional regulation, family dynamics, and identity-related challenges.
With over 700 hours of clinical experience during her graduate training in Georgia, Mahnum provided counselling services in a variety of settings, including schools, private clinics, and community agencies. She developed core competencies in assessment, treatment planning, and risk evaluation, while fostering strong therapeutic alliances with clients from all walks of life. Her volunteer work with organizations like the George Spady Society, Devonshire Care Centre, and the University of Alberta Hospital has further enriched her capacity for empathy, crisis response, and culturally attuned care.
Mahnum also brings a strong foundation in research to her clinical work. Her master’s thesis explored resiliency and coping mechanisms among survivors of human trafficking, with a focus on post-trauma growth and unmet needs. She has participated in several undergraduate research projects exploring psychology, gesture, and language production, and is experienced in SPSS analysis and academic writing. Her ongoing interest in research informs her reflective, ethical, and informed clinical practice.
Above all, Mahnum is deeply committed to creating a warm, non-judgmental space where clients feel seen, supported, and empowered. She brings a culturally sensitive lens to her work and believes in the importance of holding space for each client’s unique lived experience. Whether supporting children, adolescents, adults, or families, Mahnum’s goal is to walk alongside her clients as they build resilience, reconnect with their strengths, and move toward healing and growth.
Currently, Mahnum is able to direct bill to the following insurance providers: Alberta Blue Cross, ASEBP/ARTA, Medavie Blue Cross, SSQ Financial, Green Shield Canada, and Manulife.

LET'S GET PERSONAL
Outside of her clinical work, Mahnum finds joy in creative expression, meaningful connection, and lifelong learning. She enjoys reading, journaling, and exploring new places—whether it’s a cozy café in Edmonton or a quiet trail surrounded by nature. Deeply rooted in her values of compassion and community, Mahnum is passionate about cultural awareness and often finds inspiration through conversations, travel, and storytelling. She cherishes time with family and friends, and believes that laughter, shared meals, and intentional moments of rest are just as healing as any therapy session.
