ADHD / ADD Assessments

"Diversity is our strength, acceptance is our journey"

ADHD / ADD ASSESSMENTS

At Nova Psychology, we are dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for individuals living with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). These common conditions can significantly impact daily life, affecting focus, organization, and emotional well-being.

Understanding ADHD and ADD in Children
Children with ADHD or ADD often face challenges with attention, impulse control, and managing frustration. These difficulties can present in various ways, such as:

  • Forgetfulness and disorganization at school.
  • Poor handwriting and interrupting others during class.
  • Falling behind in classwork and struggling with multi-step tasks.
  • Resistance to cooperation and difficulty completing tasks at home.

While children with ADHD may exhibit hyperactive behaviours like fidgeting, restlessness, or excessive talking, those with ADD (a subtype of ADHD) may not show hyperactivity but instead struggle with sustained attention and focus. Tasks that are uninteresting or difficult may feel overwhelming, leading to avoidance or giving up. However, both groups often excel when engaged in activities that capture their interest, such as hobbies, movies, or video games.

ADHD and ADD in Adults and College Students
ADHD and ADD can continue into adulthood, creating challenges such as:

  • Initiating and completing tasks on time.
  • Maintaining organization and managing time effectively.
  • Navigating academic, professional, and personal responsibilities.

These difficulties can contribute to emotional stress, reduced performance at work or school, and relationship challenges.

At Nova Psychology, we understand the unique experiences of individuals with ADHD and ADD and are committed to providing compassionate, personalized support. Through thorough assessment, tailored therapy, and practical strategies, we aim to help individuals overcome challenges and thrive in every aspect of their lives.

THE ASSESSMENT PROCESS

At Nova Psychology, we aim to provide a seamless and supportive assessment experience. Here’s what to expect:

Screening Questionnaire: To start, our admin team will send you a questionnaire via Jane or conduct a brief phone screener. This step helps clarify whether a formal assessment or informal consultation is the right fit for your needs. The screening questionnaire must be completed before being added to the waitlist. We also encourage you to review the assessment process outlined here to ensure you’re fully informed.

Complimentary Consultation: Once you’re on the waitlist and a spot becomes available, we’ll schedule a 15-20 minute phone consultation with a therapist who matches your needs. To ensure the consultation is productive, please complete your intake form in advance so the therapist has all the necessary background information.

Personalized Assessment Plan: After the consultation, your therapist will explain the assessment process in detail, including what each phase involves, how long it may take, and what to expect. This step is designed to ensure you feel supported and informed.

Estimate & Booking: You’ll receive a detailed estimate based on the expected time required for your assessment. To secure your booking, we require a deposit, which will be applied toward the total assessment cost. All details will be clearly outlined to ensure transparency.

Clinical Interview: This session, lasting 1-4 hours, allows your therapist to explore your history, experiences, and concerns in depth to build a complete understanding of your unique story.

Psychological Assessment & Testing: Tailored testing, typically lasting 1-3 hours, evaluates areas such as cognitive abilities, behaviours, symptoms, and overall functioning. Each assessment is customized to your specific needs.

Assessment Scoring & Report Preparation: Your therapist will carefully review your testing results and prepare a thorough, detailed report. This phase typically takes 2-3 weeks and is an essential part of providing accurate and meaningful insights.

Final Consultation & Debriefing Session: A 1-hour session will be scheduled to review the findings, answer any questions, and discuss potential next steps or treatment options.

Final Payment & Report Release: The full cost of the assessment must be paid before the debrief session. Your report will only be released once payment is complete.

Timeline: The entire assessment process, from completing the initial screener to receiving the final report, typically takes 4-8 weeks, depending on therapist availability, the complexity of the assessment, and how quickly each step is completed.

Our team is here to guide you every step of the way and answer any questions you may have. Your comfort and understanding are our priorities.
